PROJECT OVERVIEW

Nowadays, there are a lot of ways that people can discover or browse new music. However, do they satisfy users everytime? Here comes a fresh new way to discover new music, Music Bubbles.

HOW DO PEOPLE FIND NEW MUSIC?

User-generated Playlists, Recommendations from Music Subscription App, HOT 100 chart from Billboard

RESEARCH

As part of Spotify’s ‘Stream On’ event in 2021, the company confirmed that more than 60,000 new tracks are now being ingested by its platform every single day, which is nearly one per second. However, it is true that songs out of the chart get less attention since they have fewer opportunity to show up to charts or algorithm.

PROBLEMS

︎︎︎ music apps repeatedly recommend similar music to what user is already listening to
︎︎︎ lower chance of discovering music that fits user’s taste

IDEA

Music bubble is a new feature to help people discover new music without getting interrupted by algorithm, based on the experience of getting curious of what others listen, such as observing people humming and dancing to music or eavesdropping.
